Smartphones can now help you ‘Appsesorise’

The big buzzword in retail at the moment is ‘frictionless’. Frictionless retail is all about finding smart solutions to consumer pain points throughout the customer journey.

Our new fashion based concept ‘Matchit’ does just that, using a mixture of NFC and image recognition technology, it allows the customer to instantly see what accessories are available for their chosen item of clothing.

This is what a typical customer journey could look like. Walking into the retailer Oasis, Sandra notices the POS displays for Matchit, a new app that makes accessorizing simple whilst also offering exclusive discounts.

Downloading the app, Sandra realises that for her first trial of Matchit she will receive a free £10 accessory of her choice. Tapping on the Matchit clothing label, she is presented with the top five accessories that match her choice along with their location in the shop.

The app then suggests accessories to Sandra based on occasion, I.e. depending on whether she is planning an outfit for a date, holiday, party or work. Once Sandra has selected her favourite, her choice is added to her order via the app, which she simply presents at the till to receive her free accessory.

As Sandra continues to use Matchit to shop, the app will learn her preferences and start to suggest items she may like in the form of occasional notifications as she shops. If Sandra chooses to purchase a suggested product via Matchit, she will receive a promotional discount for that item.

Matchit really helps to smooth the shopping process by becoming a simple helper while trying to choose a new outfit. But the business case for the app is also clear. By adding roughly £5 to £15 to every purchase made through Matchit, retailers end up easily upselling their accessories, resulting in a win win for both the consumer and retailer.
